Inspiration
Our proprietary red wine blend pays tribute to America’s
unique music genre, the Blues. Traditionally, we’ve changed the label art every
other year, however we’ve decided to settle on one of our favorite Blues Cuvée
labels created by artist Trent Call as the permanent label for this wine.
The Harvest
Relatively mild temperatures, during the 2019 growing season
and harvest period, allowed for a longer maturation time for the grapes. The
harvest of the Bordeaux varietals began on October 7th and concluded on October
21, with an average sugar content of 25.2 Brix. The Syrah grapes were harvested
on October 28th and October 29th, with an average sugar content of
24.7 Brix.
Winemaking
Every lot in this blend was 100% destemmed and crushed into
a small, open top fermenter. The must was cold soaked for an average of three
days before adding a yeast culture to begin fermentation. After an average of
14 days of fermentation the wines were pressed off, settled, transferred to
French oak barrels and aged for 21 months. 25% of the barrels were new French
oak and the remaining barrels were neutral. The blend was lightly filtered and
bottled in August 2021
The Wine
This vintage of the Blues Cuvée has one of the highest
percentages of Cabernet Franc and it has definitely made an impact on the
character of the wine. The wine has a dark ruby color. The aroma is a fragrant
blend of black cherries, cedar and a hint of pine needles. On the palate, the
wine is bold in the entry with flavors of ripe cherries and figs. The wine has
an intense mid-palate with a long, round finish.
Food Pairings
This wine will pair well with a variety of foods including hearty
meals such as osso buco, and pasta dishes with lamb, pork or beef.
